As the permanent home of the the Players Championship, TPC Sawgrass has become one of those golf courses we know like the back of our hand, whether we’ve played the course once, hundreds of time or never before. From the annual tournament television broadcast to video games to the island 17th green being one of the most photographed holes in the game, golf fans know this course like few others.
TPC Sawgrass officially opened on October 24, 1980, in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, and was like no other course anyone had ever seen. It first hosted the Players Championship in 1982 and made quite a splash. As part of our 40th anniversary celebration we’ve assembled this photo gallery of the famed layout through the years.
