PGA Tour starts are a coveted thing for college players and next fall, another one will be on the table. Nevada has announced it will host the Wolf Pack Classic on Oct 11-12 at Hidden Valley Country Club in Reno, Nevada.
On the line? A spot in the Barracuda Championship, the Tour’s stableford event at Tahoe Mt. Club in Truckee, California in early August.
“We are very excited to partner up with Hidden Valley Country Club and Barracuda to host some of the countries elite programs,” said Jacob Wilner, Nevada head men’s golf coach. “Our goal is to showcase Reno and to provide the community and players a first class college event.”
A handful of events offer players a spot in a Tour event. For instance, the annual Southern Highlands Collegiate (which wasn’t played in 2020 because of COVID-19) typically awards a spot in the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. The Valspar Championship awards a spot in the next year’s Valspar Championship on the PGA Tour.
“The Barracuda Championship is proud to partner with the University of Nevada for Wolf Pack Classic this October,” Chris Hoff, Tournament Director, Barracuda Championship. “The Barracuda has a history of granting exemptions to some of college’s greatest as they start their professional career; no better example than Collin Morikawa’s maiden victory in 2019 following his career at Cal.”
