Doc’s Top 5 Each Way Bets
Pat Reed 22/1 (Draft Kings $9,600)
What we have to go from 13 years of the Hero World Challenge at this week’s venue Sherwood Country Club is that when Tiger Woods wasn’t dominating the event guys like Luke Donald, GMac and Jim Furyk in their prime won here. I have Reed in that category and then some and rested off a super impressive T3 at Wentworth he’s a big danger here.
Webb Simpson 20/1 (Draft Kings $9,700)
Loitering with intent. 23 birdies last time out at TPC Summerlin in a T13 at The Shriners, bringing his top-15 streak to five. Five par-5’s and five par-3’s on a 7,000 yard track with lightning fast bentgrass greens this week should suit Webb.
Joaquin Niemann 35/1 (Draft Kings $8,400)
Tied first in greens last week at the CJ
Cup and Niemann brushed in 20 birdies for the second week in a row. Playing solid golf since the BMW Championship and with a T13 at Shriners and solo 6th last week looks to be building towards a W.
Bubba Watson 33/1 (Draft Kings $8,700)
If you are of the opinion that bentgrass greens are an equaliser, where expert putters don’t have such a big advantage, then Bubba Watson has to come into the reckoning again this week. Tipped him last week to a T7 at the CJ Cup where he circled a T5 in the GIR stats and accumulated -10 on the par-5’s. I’m watching him with interest with the Masters and its bentgrass greens on the horizon.
Matt Fitzpatrick 33/1
Amazes me how some players can Atlantic hop, play great and seemingly not tire. After a sodden week in Scotland, Matt Fitz notched up a T7 at Wentworth (even after a 76 on Saturday), then jumps on a plane and records a T12 at the CJ Cup with 21 birdies. Four of his five wins have come between September and October and with big PGA Tour performances this years at Arnie, Memorial, St Jude, BMW watch out for Matt this week.
Long Odds Glory
Phil Mickelson 60/1
Bombs bombs bombs have seen Phil Mickelson win the last two events (Ozarks and Dominion Energy) on the Champions Tour and he’ll be super confident heading to California this week. I think he’s overpriced at 60/1.
