When it comes to timing your run to perfection you wont get much better than Jordan Spieth at the Texas Open.
After climbing back out of the PGA Tour doldrums this season, the 27 year old became a winner again in San Antonio, just 96 hours before The Masters.
It's wrong to say “Vintage Spieth” given he's still in the infancy of his career at 27, but what the hell, his putting in the final round was “Vintage Spieth” pouring them in for fun as the pressure mounted.
That squeeze came from Charley Hoffman, who must have his own ATM in the clubhouse at the Texas Open, and battled all the way to the final hole. In the end it wasn't to be for Charley, who is not in the Masters field, but he could content himself with being the leading money winner in Texas in the last 15 years.
A word too for Matt Wallace who finished a game third with the experienced Gareth Lord on the bag.
For Spieth it was incredibly his first win since the 2017 Open Championship, 83 starts and 193 weeks ago but he still holds the distinction of becoming just the fifth player in the last 40 years to have reached 12 wins before turning 28, along with Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas.
Spieth now climbs from 53rd to 38th in the latest World Golf Ranking and heads to The Masters as 12/1 third favourite.
