Editorial
If you haven't heard the line “When you're glum pop up your thumb!” you're in for a treat.  On the eve of the Abu Dhabi Championship the European Tour released their latest video featuring a host of top stars in a support group setting entitled ‘Angry Golfers.'  In it the host Tommy Fleetwood urges an angry Tyrrell Hatton to remember ‘what we say' after a missed putt. Hatton's head down shrugging acting is Oscar worthy as he utters “When you're glum pop up your thumb!”
On the course in the heat of battle Saturday Tyrrell did pop up his thumb after a frustrating miss but in truth he seemed in control throughout.  Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood were with him atop the leaderboard but you just got the sense they were still having January teething problems with their swings where Hatton was firing on all cylinders.
On Sunday, as so often happens, when the squeeze came those still tweaking couldn't match the man in form and the 29 year old from High Wycombe cruised to a 66 and four shot victory from surprise of the day Australian Jason Scrivener.
For Hatton things couldn't be much better. He has now won four times since November 2019, has all but locked up his Ryder Cup place, and looks to have found the perfect bagman in Mick Donaghy.  While playing partner Rory McIlroy flew off to compete at (this years US Open venue) Torrey Pines this week, Hatton will head to Dubai happy in the knowledge that he has not overtaken the Northern Irishman in the World Rankings by climbing to 5th.
Glum he most certainly is not.
