What’s In The 2021 Winning Bag Richard Bland? An Original M2 Driver!

The Belfry has seen more than its fair share of epic moments over the years and its almost as if it was sparing one more special one for Richard Bland at the British Masters.
Known by all out there simply as “Blandy” the quiet, hard working Tour pro had ground out 478 events on Tour before finally tasting success in a playoff over Italian Guido Migliozzi.
Following the win tributes flowed in for the “golden oldie” including from Fred Couples who congratulated the 48 year old saying it reminded him “why golf is the greatest game.”
The win makes the Southampton resident the oldest first-time winner in European Tour history.  Bland is also now on track to make the milestone 500 Tour events with a two year playing exemption accompanying his winning cheque for €339,278.

How He Did It

Having switched back to his old TaylorMade M2 driver, Blandy  hit a field leading 47 fairways for the week and averaged 272 yards.  That was the foundation for 59 greens found in regulation with his Honma Tour World Proto irons (2nd in the stats). On the greens the Southampton fan's 119 putts total (T63 in the field) with his Odyssey Tank Cruiser #7 didn't tell the full story of a Tour record setting one bogey over 72 holes versus 14 birdies.  The win jumps Bland from 218th to 134th in the latest World Golf Rankings.
