I have to admit I never thought I'd see Tiger Woods up there near the top of the leaderboard after the first round of the 2020 Masters. In fairness he hasn't had a good year, not a lot of big event time and hasn't been driving it well. I wasn't sure about his chipping either, especially greenside in wet conditions.
Oh me of little faith!
Out he goes in the first round and shoots a 4 under 68.
Watching the supercut of every shot of his round, Woods did seem to get his trademark bit of luck here and there along the way, but as the commentator points out, his misses are in the right places.
I think also that Woods was actually helped by starting on the back 9, traditionally the easier nine, it gave him time to get the engine warm before playing the front.
Is the dream defence still on? Right now there's no reason to think not!
