Shane Lowry and Brian “Bo” Martin may have parted company amicably but they leave behind one hell of a story.
I remember the lads teaming up at the Portugal Masters in 2018 and it was an immediate solid match. Bo, calm and assured, the perfect man to steer Shane’s ship. The pair tasted victory in at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship in 2019, before starring in the greatest week in my living memory, The 2019 Open at Royal Portrush. Post-Covid another win would come at the 2022 BMW Championship at Wentworth.
Players and caddies split all the time, it’s not something to be mourned……when it lasted four years and involved a Major win on the hallowed Portrush links, on the island of Ireland, it’s something to be very much celebrated.
My favourite moment?
“Once I hit that (shot) I handed him the club and I told him I loved him…….”
Thanks Shane and Bo for the greatest golfing week of my life. #Shane pic.twitter.com/b5Bj2iY7lx
