2022 Valero Texas Open Betting Preview And Tips

March 31st – April 3rd, 2022
TPC San Antonio, Texas
Par: 72 / Yardage: 7,494
Purse: $8.6 million with $1,548,000 to the winner
Defending Champion: Jordan Spieth
TPC San Antonio’s Oaks Course is the venue for the 100th Texas Open this week. It's always windy, they purposely slow the greens to allow for that and guys who hit the fairways tend to do better here.

Favourite Watch

Rory McIlroy is one of the few “big guns” playing this week and starts clear favourite at 8/1.

Doc's 5 Best Each Way Bets

Jordan Spieth 14/1

Though really not in sparkling form the defending champion is hard to top around here, a great wind player at a home fixture.  Hasn't played great since his solo second at Pebble Beach but still ranks third in Strokes Gained Tee to Green and he will be in the mix here.

Chris Kirk 33/1

A good showing in Phoenix was followed by a T7 at the Honda and T5 at the Arnie and I wouldn't worry at all about an MC at Sawgrass given the conditions.  Two top-8 finishes from his last three visits to TPC San Antonio and a solid each way bet.

Corey Conners 18/1

Impressed me hitting more greens than anyone else at Bay Hill a few weeks ago and Conners looked excellent at the Matchplay in Austin last week going unbeaten until the semi final.  Winner here in 2019 and in form again.

Kevin Streelman 50/1

What he lacks in firepower Kevin Streelman makes up for in ring craft.  Led fairways hit at The Players on his way to a T22 and T7 at the Valspar Championship last time out.  Eighth here in 2018 and sixth in 2019 and knows how to engineer a big paycheck on the right course.

Charley Hoffman 70/1

Look it's as simple as this. Charley Hoffman is playing absolute and utter muck at the moment. BUT he loves this event and prepares for it like it's a Major.  Winner in 2016, second three times including in the last two stagings.

Long Odds Shots

Anirban Lahiri is at 110/1 with the bookies after coming second at The Players.  He was solo fifth here last year and way overpriced.
Brendan Steele is another past champ at 80/1 that has been playing well lately.
