2012 Abu Dhabi Golf Championship Betting Tips
January 21st – 24th, 2021
Abu Dhabi G.C., Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
Par: 72 / Yardage: 7,583
Purse: $8 million with $1,333,280 to the winner
Defending Champion: Lee Westwood
Favourite Watch
Rory McIlroy and the in-hiding from the PGA Tour Justin Thomas are co-favourites at 6/1. Rory is back for the first time since 2018 trying to get the W after eight top-10's from 10 appearances at the event.
If you want a win only bet it has to be Matt Fitzpatrick at 14/1. Winner of the Tour Championship just down the road before Christmas, T2 here last year and T3 in 2018.

Doc's Top 5 Each Way Bets
Tip 1: Martin Kaymer 33/1
The amiable German has struggled to hit the heights over the past few season but a “back to basics” approach in 2020 seemed to be paying off with good showings at Wentworth, in Italy and a T14 at the DP World Tour Championship. If ever there was a place for Kaymer to really burst back on the scene it's here in Abu Dhabi where he has won three times and finished in the top-10 three times in the past five years.
Tip 2: Victor Perez 33/1
I've been championing the cause of the big Frenchman for a while now and still think this guy is a Major winner in waiting. Started 2020 well with a T2 here behind Lee Westwood, but a stint on the PGA Tour proved frustrating and fruitless. A return to Europe yielded a solo 2nd in Wentworth and and 7th to end the end at the Tour Championship in Dubai. A solid each way punt this week.
Tip 3: Bernd Wiesberger 33/1
There are always lot of unknowns at an early January event, especially so in these unprecedented times; so many can come out of the blocks firing but I like Bernd Wiesberger as a dependable each way option from 33's. The Austrian has three top-10's since 2015 in Abu Dhabi and finished 2020 well with a T4 at the RSM.
Tip 4: Thomas Pieters 40/1
A four time winner on Tour, always in August and September for believers, like me in the circannual cycle of people (kinda like a circadian rhythm only over a year!) but Pieters seems to have an affinity for this kind of golf in Abu Dhabi. Three times in the top-5 in the past five years with a best of solo second to Rickie Fowler in 2016. Worth a squeak at 40/1.
Tip 5: Jamie Donaldson 100/1
If Lee Westwood could have the greatest comeback season ever in 2020 why not Jamie Donaldson in 2021. The Ryder Cup finished last season super strong with top-10's in Spain Scotland Cyprus and scored an excellent solo 2nd at the South Africa Open. A past winner of the event too in 2013, would a place here from 100/1 be so shocking?
Long Odds Glory Shots
Paul Waring 125/1: T12 in 2020 and T6 in 2019 and queitly goes about his business.
Robert Rock 200/1: Still the best swing on Tour, winner here in 2012.
