What about that for nerves of steel! Norway’s Viktor Hovland showed just how focussed the top Tour players can be when he turned a final hole calamity into a solid bogey to successfully defend his Hero World Challenge title in the Bahamas.
Seemingly cruising home with Scottie Scheffler comfortably back in the rear view mirror, Hovland was in danger of squandering a two-shot lead on the final hole when he pulled his second shot into the water and drag Scheffler right back into contention, only to produce an incredible up and down to seal the deal.
Scheffler, forcing a chip-in which hit the hole and shot past, then also bogeyed the 18th leaving Hovland to celebrate an unexpectedly dramatic two-shot win on 16-under-par.
“It’s freaking nerve-racking,” Hovland said after. “I was leading by five I think after the turn and didn’t play all that great on the back nine but it was good enough. It made it a little bit exciting I guess.”
